The Mars Racing team had another crown jewel event on their racing calendar from September 14-16 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series once again sanctioned the 14th Annual 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.' A 56 car field assembled at the 1/2-mile Marion County Fairgrounds speedplant and things kicked off with a pair of $7,000 to win preliminary events. On Thursday evening, Jimmy Mars ran second in his heat race prior to picking off ten competitors during the 25-lap sprint en route to a solid sixth place showing. At Knoxville on Friday night, Jimmy once again finished second in his stacked heat race and sixth in the 25-lapper.

By virtue of accumulating the tenth best point total during the prelims, Jimmy rolled off from the outside of the fifth row in Saturday's 100-lap grand finale. The Menomonie, Wisconsin standout - who is the only driver to start all fourteen 'Knoxville Nationals' feature events - pitted multiple times during the first half of the race to tune on his MB Customs mount before making a charge late in the distance. Jimmy climbed all the way up to third in the running order before settling for an impressive fourth place effort behind only $40,000 victor Mike Marlar, Jonathan Davenport, and Jared Landers! "It was a good weekend for us at Knoxville," commented Mars this week. "The rain kind of threw us for a loop on Saturday night and we just tried to maintain early in the 100-lapper when the track was wide open. Then I got spun around and we took advantage of a few caution periods to make some adjustments. The track came into it during the second half of the race and that's when we made our charge forward. I would have liked to have finished on the podium, but fourth isn't too bad and we will get ready for Red Cedar this weekend!"

Jimmy will now turn his sights to one of his favorite racing weekends of the year, as the 38th edition of the 'Punky Manor Challenge of Champions' will be held at the nearby Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin on September 22-23. The popular driver known as "The Iceman" will enter both a WISSOTA Late Model and a WISSOTA Modified in the big weekend at his hometown racetrack. A $5,000 top prize will be on the line for the Late Models, while the winner of the Modified show will receive a $2,000 paycheck. Jimmy swept both divisions during last year's 'Punky Manor Challenge of Champions' and will look to add more race titles to his illustrious resume this weekend!
