MARS OPENS UP SEASON AT DEEP
SOUTH; TEXAS UP NEXT!
Posted March 18, 2009
(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars and his #28 Dirt Late Model
team kicked off their version of the 2009 racing season last
Friday night, March 13 at the Deep South Speedway in Loxley,
Alabama. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned
night one of the 'Showdown on the Gulf' and a $7,000 top prize
was up for grabs. Jimmy timed in nineteenth fastest during
WOOLMS qualifying and later ran sixth in his stacked heat
race. The Menomonie, Wisconsin driver advanced into the 40-lap
main event via his second place effort in his consolation
race and later rolled off from the outside of the tenth row
in the A-Main. Jimmy unfortunately retired early from the
feature and settled for a twentieth place performance in his
season opener.
The two-day 'Showdown on the Gulf' was scheduled to culminate
with a $12,000 to win finale on Saturday evening, but Mother
Nature unfortunately had different plans and the show was
rained-out. You can view complete results online at www.worldofoutlaws.com.
Next up for the #28 team will be a rare trip to the Lone
Star State of Texas. The Battleground Speedway in Highlands,
Texas will be the site of the $20,000 to win 'Lone Star 100,'
which will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21. Preliminary
competition will kick off on Friday night and the weekend
will be highlighted by a 100-lap main event on Saturday evening.
The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will once again preside
over all of the dirt-slinging action this weekend at Battleground.
